An open letter to all QPR fans

The QPR board room... Hopefully today there are removing that revolving door in there. Alleged gun plots, Dunga proving he had a turn of pace, hoping over here in an instant to cast his vote on something I'd imagine he hadn't a clue about. And worse than all that, I've had to witness Flavio Briatore in a pair of Budgie Smugglers on the Internet. Not pretty.

At last it seems we have an owner prepared to treat us with respect. Its only been a day and already the mood among QPR fans is vastly improved on what we felt a few weeks back. And thankfully there has been none of the previous grandstanding about 4 year plans, Champions league and all that nonsense. No, this time we've actually heard words like stability, academy, youth, community... Music to my ears.

While all this is great, I would like to offer a word of caution, and I promise this is not a doom and gloom sermon. We have the change we surely all wanted at the club, but its us, the fans that need to change too.

Now I know its not all of us, many, in fact most of us, are happy to go along, have a few drinks in plastic glasses, discuss impractical cagoules with Wibble Wobble, formations with... um... er...no one, Ladbroke Rs new look and wait for the NI lot to weigh in... and descend into seeing who can shout the loudest. But there are a few for whom this is not enough.

I refer to the people that seem to want to (and this is what this phrase must have been invented for) hang out the back of the chairman/manager/player/mascot.

It's started already... Tweets about how "my mate Tony is tweeting me". And his rumoured appearance on a podcast for one fans group.

Now I am not digging anyone out here but I do think we need to ensure we don't create the same situation we had before.

That situation, should any of you be reading this from space, or you are not a Rangers fan (not sure which is oddest) is the frankly farcical pantomime we've endured over the last X years.

People who claim to be a mate of the chariman, lets be honest, that could have been anyone of us, anyone that offered to march to the drummers beat would have been given untold riches in the form of a drum/website/ticket to reward your hard work.

It's actually pathetic, so what if someone runs the club, are they a bigger fan than you or I? Arguably no, they come and go, but we will remain. I really question the motives of those that look to get close to people at the top of our club. I remember when Tango & Cash first rocked up, i thought all this would change, then at the end of Warnock's first season as he made the short walk to the LSA do in the Springbok cave (he cant have been going for a drink it takes an hour to get served in there when it's empty) there was one of the usual hangers on bending his ear, more than likely talking shit. A grown man. For the love of god, grow up, that is the domain of a 10 year old, or that of someone with an unsound mind. Or someone wearing a replica shirt (that's a PG tip from El Pel)

This clamour for the attention of 'Gianni' has not only been sad to see, its also created a much more sinister element to our support, message board wars.

I've witnessed some truly disgusting things on the modern version of the battleground, the message board, where it seems all decency and respect has been tossed out the window. We make the
Judean lot seem like the epitome of togetherness. Threats, peoples family getting dragged into it. And its not all been one way. Supporting rangers for some has been as much about supporting the chairman as it has the club. Which is frankly ludicrous. We are all QPR fans. Every one of us wants the best for our club. But at times there has been so much infighting we must look like clowns, and I've even been caught up in it myself, although that one time at Norwich with Steve The Teeth & John the Dog was down to copious drink, and we were 1-0 down and down to 10 men, and he had it coming.

Yet here we are, with a new owner that seems to want to stop treating the fans like mushrooms and wants dialogue. That's great, I welcome that, but lets have all fans groups involved, and please I implore you all to do it for us, not yourselves.

Let's ensure we let the board do what they undoubtedly need to do, manage the club, while we do what we need to do, support the club and the team, starting on Saturday at Everton, and for the rest of this season and beyond.
