Carling Cup : QPR 0 - 2 Rochdale : Warnock says he's happy to lose

The R's were stunned as League One Rochdale handed them a Carling Cup exit.

Goals from Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and Gary Jones at the beginning and end of the match were enough to see off their Premiership opponents.

Bad night at the office: QPR had a number of first team regulars in the team, including Jay Bothroyd

The home side, beaten in the second round by Port Vale last season, had a goal ruled out for offside by Jay Bothroyd that could have changed the game.

But they were unable to avoid a defeat that means this is the sixth time in eight seasons QPR have failed to progress from the second round of the competition.

THE GOALS

5 mins: Ashley Grimes shoots low towards the right corner and QPR goalkeeper Brian Murphy gets a hand to it, but Akpa Akpro is there to put in the rebound (1-0).

81 mins: On the break Grimes passes into Gary Jones who takes a bad first touch but pulls off a superb lob over Murphy with his second (2-0).

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

9 mins: Grimes plays a great ball down the right for Nicky Adams who turns Bradley Orr inside out and gets a shot away from a tight angle but it is saved.

11 mins: Adel Taarabt takes a corner from the left that Dan Shittu heads towards goal from seven yards but it is blocked by Pim Balkestien.

24 mins: Matthew Connolly has a go from the left corner of the box which is awkwards for David Lucas but he pushes it wide of the left post.

45+1 mins: Bruno Andrade switches from the left to the right flank, cuts inside and shoots from the edge of the box - Lucas spills the ball but it is cleared.

52 mins: Adams and Grimes combine again, this time the former runs through the middle and plays the ball through to Grimes but Brian Murphy makes a good save.

53 mins: QPR have the ball in the back of the net as Michael Harriman picks out Jay Bothroyd with a deep cross from the right and he heads in but it is offside.
